First check whether there are maintenance marks on the fabric. If so, follow the manufacturer's instructions. If not, then tests must be performed first to determine the best washing method. Stains on bedding such as bedspreads are generally water-soluble stains. Additionally, since 100% of cotton fabrics tend to absorb impurities or fade in the solvent when dry cleaning, water washing may prove to be the best washing method. You can measure the size of the velvet fabric before washing to ensure shrinkage occurs after washing to remedy.
Find a small piece of inconspicuous place on the velvet fabric and test its color fastness with water and detergent. It is best to test it with the detergent used for washing, because the results are accurate in this way. If the color fastness is OK, then machine wash with warm water and pre-selected detergent according to the normal procedure. (Hot water may cause shrinkage) Some slurry can be added during the final cleaning stage to enhance the solidity of the fabric. If you want this fabric to have a smooth and hard look, then put the velvet fabric on the washing machine and press it. But be careful not to clip plastic tape (buckle) or metal zippers into the upper and lower plywood of the clamping machine. If you want to get a soft feeling, put it in the dryer and dry it according to the cotton fabric method, and finally press it like any cotton fabric.
