A cat was shot in the head and became disabled, turned into a mermaid and became an internet star. The story goes back 9 years ago. One day in 2013, the 3-month-old kitten Sally was shot in the head and lay dying in a park in Santiago, Chile. Janez Jarek, who was still a student, happened to be passing by and immediately took Sally to the veterinarian. X-ray scans revealed that Sally had been left paraplegic as a result of her injuries and would never walk again.
Janez decided to adopt the poor kitten and give it a chance to improve its quality of life. Two months later, Janez picked Sally up from the hospital. He used his student loans to buy a wheelchair so he could have some independent mobility. With the help of several friends, he came up with the idea of dressing Sally in a mermaid costume. According to the veterinarian, Sally can't feel anything from her neck down, and she can't curl up to keep herself warm like healthy cats, so she has to have clothing to keep her warm, and a mermaid tail is a good idea.
Janez designed the tail on paper and had a friend sew it together. Janez often shares Sally's life on social media to show the world that small animals suffering from misfortune can live happy, fulfilling lives. Now 9, Sally has become an internet sensation, winning the hearts of fans by often posing in a baby blue furry tail and a wheelchair specially designed for her. "I want people to see Sally the way I see her, because this sweet little guy suffered a lot but is now very happy with his life," Janez said.
"I have to make sure he empties his bladder three times a day and makes sure he has enough room to move around without getting stuck. Disabled pets may require a little extra work on your part, but they are great companions and will definitely add some magical moments to your life." One person wrote: "You deserve it all."
