Norwich City officially announced that 51-year-old Belgian coach Philippe Clement has become the team's new head coach. The two parties signed the contract until the summer of 2029.
Clement’s professional playing career lasted from 1992 to 2011. Apart from one season with Coventry City, he has spent his entire career in Belgium. After playing for Club Brugge for 10 years, he retired and returned to the club as a youth coach.
He served as the interim head coach of Club Brugge twice, and then coached Waslander-Beveren, starting his head coaching career. Subsequently, he moved to Genk and led the team to win the Belgian First Division championship in 2019.
In 2020 and 2021, he returned to Club Brugge and once again led the team to win the league championship, and then went to coach Monaco. Most recently, Clement served as head coach of Glasgow Rangers for 18 months and led the team to win the Scottish League Cup.
This season, Norwich performed poorly in the British Championship. The "Canaries" are currently ranked 23rd in the standings, in the relegation zone with Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday. Norwich announced the dismissal of head coach Liam Manning and his coaching staff half a month ago.
