Official news, the 33-year-old former Arsenal midfielder Wilshere has become the coach of the English League One team Luton. Chris Powell serves as his assistant.
Wilshere said: "It's a huge honor to be appointed as Luton Town manager. It feels like a full circle moment for me. I first came to Luton when I was eight years old, so I guess you could say my first full-time club management role was here. Club, this is completely destined. I am very happy to be here and I can’t wait to manage this football club.”
Luton was unfortunately relegated from the English Championship last season. This season, they have 5 wins, 1 draw, 5 losses and 16 points in the English League. They are currently ranked 11th in the standings.
Wilshere came from the Luton youth training as a player. In 2001, he left the Luton youth training to join the Arsenal youth training. During his playing career, he played for Arsenal, Bolton, Bournemouth, West Ham United and other teams.
After retiring in 2022, Wilshere took up the coaching position. He already has coaching experience with the Arsenal U18 team and briefly served as the interim coach of Norwich at the end of last season.
