In the 2025 Taiwan Electric Technology Forum, Chen Guanzhou, general manager of the Department of Development, gave the first theme speech, and also shared his views on AI acceleration technology and future trends, emphasizing that AI is a real existence and will have a huge impact on human life in the next few years. Through various technologies of the Department and cooperation with the largest and most important technical partner, Taiwan Power, in the future, we will continue to deepen cooperation in Advanced Process and Advanced Packaging. Chen Guanzhou pointed out that AI industry has observed several major trends. First of all, investment in data centers continues to grow. It is expected that by 2029, data center investments could reach $1 trillion, about half of which are semi-conductive production. The total value of semiconductor industries is likely to reach $1 trillion in 2030, and a large part will be driven by AI.
Secondly, the language model capabilities are progressing very quickly. The intelligent ability of models plays an important role in the advancement of AI technology. From the initial Conversation function, model capabilities are developing towards Reasoning and Action. Large models that are capable of reasoning and action will become the basis for general artificial intelligence experience in the future as Agent-based (agent/intelligence). Agent can not only talk, but also reason and take actions, directly changing people's life experience. A good Agent is like a smart brain that can be placed in different devices.
Taking smart phones as an example, it is regarded as the most important entrance for humans to enter the digital world. If a smart phone has a brain, it helps users accomplish many things in the digital world, called Agentic AI User Experience. Similarly, robots or humanoid robots are important bodies in the physical world. If these robots have a smart brain, they can also provide a lot of assistance in the physical world. With the rapid progress of model capabilities, the ability may double every 3.3 months.
The third important trend is the increase in computing power of the edge computing device. In order to meet AI needs, the computing power of the edge device is more and more, in addition to traditional CPUs and GPUs, neural network processing units will be more and more. The NPU computing power of the flagship phone is close to 100TOPS, which helps model computing and Edge-based experience. It is expected that the edge computing power will double every two years in the future, and the increased computing power will be distributed to devices such as mobile phones, TVs, and automobiles. Smart phones are the entrance to the digital world, and AI phones will occupy 50% of the market by 2028. Some computing will be run on mobile, especially if it requires privacy, real-time, environmental awareness or understanding of user computing. Operations such as large models may be performed on the cloud.
Chen Guanzhou emphasized that the development of Agent-based experience requires the Agent to have the ability to perform actions, which means it must be able to give orders to allow Apps or services to perform specific tasks (such as ticketing, notifications, etc.). Therefore, the Agent must have a standard interface with the App or Service, which the Contact Department calls it NCP. NCP provides Agent tools to access various Action tools, and this industry standardization is underway, helping the rapid development of Agent Based experience.
Key Development Technology has a wide range of product lines covering the edges to the cloud. Product innovation comes from the joint cooperation of the ecological system. This includes game ecosystem (to enable AI Enabled Game), AI Ecological Link (to help model manufacturers adjust size models), and camera ecosystem.
