The U.S. Congressional Members expressed concern that China, a US subsidiary, has shared its address with the NVIDIA (NVIDIA) San Clara, California headquarters for ten years. The National Committee of the Selection Committee reported that Futurewei leased the office of Sanchang Building in NVIDIA headquarters area, and NVIDIA closed its lease to retrieve the building in 2024.
TheMembers' letter to Futurewei said the arrangement was "deeply distressed" and asked for explanation of its relationship with China and its corporate organizational structure because it was close to Futurewei's ability to easily obtain the most advanced semiconductor and artificial intelligence technologies in the United States, including NVIDIAGPUs and AI accelerators.
Since 2019, China has been included in the physical list by the United States due to national security issues, and has prohibited the acquisition of advanced chips and restricted American companies from supplying products. The National Committee mentioned that the lawsuit in 2018 was to use Futurewei to obtain confidentiality of American technology companies. The matter was revealed because former employee Jesse Hong blew the whistle and was conducting a "enterprise party activity" for the sake of the "business" campaign.
Futurewei instructed employees to sneak into Facebook's closing telecommunications summit under the "fake American company name" because it prohibited China from participating. Then it reported the content to the Chinese high-level. The complaint also said that Futurewei used "Guide" job escorts" with the American new foundry company to obtain confidential information. The lawsuit was settled in 2019 and the trial was not entered.
The National Assembly letter emphasized that if Futurewei often sneaks into closed industry meetings and deceives to obtain and approach sensitive data, it would not be a coincidence that it would be a ten-year shared address with NVIDIA. Futurewei has moved to San Jose, but it is only ten minutes away from the original site. Its continued to defend the core area of the Silicon Valley will inevitably cause US worries.
NVIDIA, Futurewei, Hua and the National Association have not responded to this message. A NVIDIA spokesperson told Bloomberg that the company ensures "the security and protection of offices, employees and intellectual property rights, and retains an NVIDIA-specific area even if it has a neighborhood."
China's scientific and technological development has always been at the center of its pressure in the United States. In 2019, the Trump administration put China on the blacklist, cut off contact with US suppliers and prohibited the acquisition of US advanced chips. After that, President Biden did not reduce the pressure system during his term. In June 2021, he signed an executive order to expand the list of Chinese companies that the United States prohibits investment, and China is also among them.
However, these efforts strengthen the determination to be self-sufficient. Since 2023, NVIDIA executive Jensen Huang also praised the Financial Times report in March, which is growing in the field of artificial intelligence, and pointed out that the US government's "not good to suppress the pressure."
